Mr. Debasish Mukherjee

Mr. Debasish Mukherjee, born on 28th April, 1954,is an eminent personality in the Mechanical Engineering sphere. With over 25 years of experience, he has established himself as a veteran in the ropeway industry, having worked in various capacities across different sectors.

He has worked with almost all prominent Indian Ropeway companies and contributed to the Design and Engineering department of M/S UshaBreco for continuous 15 years.

Mr. Mukherjee teamed up with M/S Usha Martin Industries (one of the largest Rope Manufacturers) in their technical department and later joined M/S Conveyor & Ropeway Services which specializes in Turnkey Ropeway project management as a consultant for approximately 4 years. He further collaborated with Amzone International – Manufacturer of the Kiswire; ropes for cable car and rope accessories.

He also proved his excellence for 2 years as a consultant to M/S Damodar Ropeways & Infra Limited (India’s Largest Ropeway O&M Company with maximum turnkey design and construction projects executed since 2015).

Currently holding a Directorial post in Esteem InfraProjects Pvt. Ltd, which is a Ropeway Consultancy company specialized in creating DPR (Detailed Project Reports) for numerous upcoming ropeways in India. This company also conducts third party reviews on the health of Ropeway Systems and the O&M practices of the ropeway operating company on behalf of the principal authority.

Since few years, Mr. D. Mukherjee is personally instrumental in providing consultancy to:

  • The Tourism Department of Sikkim for the Ropeway Projects.
  • The Tourism Department of Bihar for the Rajgir Ropeway Project.
  • Tata Consulting Engineers for the Ropeway System at N.M.D.C.

Mr. C.K. Karmakar

Mr. C.K Karmakar, born on 3rd July, 1946, is widely recognized for his unwavering dedication and significant contributions in the Indian ropeway industry. He achieved top honors in civil engineering from Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur, and subsequently earned qualifications in mechanical engineering through AMIE.

Initially, Mr. Karmakar selected EHV Transmission Lines and Sub-stations as his area of professional interest and served in M/S EMC Steelal Limited for 6 years. He actively participated in framing”IS-5613” for design, fabrication, galvanizing and construction of EHV Transmission Line.

Mr. Karmakar embarked on his career in the Ropeway Industry in 1974 when he joined M/S UshaBreco Limited. During his tenure, he gained valuable expertise in designing and managing both Industrial and Passenger Ropeways. In a notable achievement, he collaborated with Pomagalsky, a renowned France-based cable-lift systems company, to create a 6-seater Gondola Lift in Gulmarg, Kashmir. After dedicating two decades to the industry, Mr. Karmakar decided to leverage his exceptional skills as an Independent Consultant in various domains.

Mr. Karmakar commenced his career as an independent consultant by providing his expertise in Design Checking, Quality Control, Project Management, and Certification of Construction Projects to Det-Norse Veritas (DNV). His experience extended to collaborating with organizations such as Indian Oil Corporation, where he was involved in the design, inspection, quality control, and certification of projects like the vision – 2000 Jubilee and retail outlet. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the construction of a 19 KM Monocable Ropeway in Bangladesh with Fenner India Limited. His contributions further extended to working with Uttaranchal Infrastructural Development Limited for the Nainital Passenger Ropeway, as well as assisting the governments of Chhattisgarh and West Bengal in ropeway projects.

Mr. Karmakar has provided consultancy services for passenger and industrial ropeways to esteemed companies like RITES and Usha Breco Limited. He also served as a visiting lecturer in the Construction Technology Department at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Additionally, he holds the position of a committee member in a personal capacity for BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) Committee for Wire Rope, Ropeways, Conveyors, and Amusement Rides. His expertise has been instrumental in the modification of Indian standards for passenger Ropeways, which earned him an appreciation letter from BIS. Furthermore, he serves as a technical expert member in the ropeway advisory board of the Gujarat Government and certified the renowned Girnar Passenger Ropeway, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
